Neurology

About the Department

Since August 2015, under the leadership of former superintendent Dr. Chia-Hsun Peng, the Neurology Department at Taipei Veterans General Hospital Hsinchu Branch has been actively expanding its services. The hospital has recruited skilled neurologists, compassionate and experienced technicians, and clinical psychologists, while also securing funding to acquire advanced neurological diagnostic equipment.
In December 2015, staff members began receiving comprehensive training in neurological function testing at both Taipei Veterans General Hospital and the Tri-Service General Hospital. This training continues today to build a strong team of neurodiagnostic technicians.
By August 2016, the Neurological Function Testing Room was officially launched to serve patients. In July 2017, the department acquired a 32-channel multifunctional neurodiagnostic system for conducting nerve conduction studies and related tests. On July 26, 2019, a high-end cerebrovascular ultrasound system was added, greatly enhancing the department’s capacity to diagnose stroke and cerebrovascular diseases.
With Taiwan’s aging population and the increasing prevalence of stroke and dementia, the department also emphasizes post-stroke rehabilitation and case management for dementia, aiming to provide more comprehensive care.
Since December 2021, the department has implemented Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) — a cutting-edge technology that supports rehabilitation after stroke and helps manage post-stroke depression, enhancing the quality and effectiveness of neurological care.
The department is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including:
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) and Electromyography (EMG)
  • Carotid Artery Ultrasound
  • Transcranial Doppler (TCD)
  • rTMS Neuromodulation
We offer diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of neurological conditions such as stroke, headache, dizziness, epilepsy, neuropathic pain, dementia, memory decline, and neuromuscular disorders, helping local residents in the Chutung area avoid the need to travel long distances for specialized care.
