Department Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine at our hospital has established a Patient Education Center to provide education related to nutrition, nursing care, and medication management for patients with chronic kidney disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease and asthma, hepatitis, and other conditions.

Our hospital was certified as a Kidney Disease Health Promotion Institution in 2011 and a Diabetes Health Promotion Institution in 2012. To enable more people to access comprehensive health information conveniently and in a timely manner, all internal medicine–related patient education services were integrated in September 2020 into the Internal Medicine Patient Education Center of Taipei Veterans General Hospital Hsinchu Branch.

The education consultation rooms are located in the 1st-floor outpatient area, Clinic Rooms 24 and 25.

Services

1. Diabetes Education

   • Provides non-mydriatic fundus photography

   • Home care guidance

   • Foot care education

   • Insulin injection instruction

   • Blood glucose self-monitoring and medication guidance

   • Aims to reduce the occurrence of chronic complications

2. Kidney Disease Education

   • Nutrition and nursing education for high-risk groups and patients with Stage 1–5 chronic kidney disease

   • Regular follow-up to reduce the incidence of chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease

3. Hepatitis B and C Education

   • Daily self-care and medication guidance

4. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Asthma Education

   • Home care and medication instruction

5. Patient Support Activities

   • Annual patient support gatherings such as kidney disease and diabetes patient meetings, often held in conjunction with seasonal or holiday events

6. Health Education Media

   • Educational videos and the latest health information are shown in outpatient waiting areas
