Department Overview

To support the government's mental health network and provide care for patients with mental illness in the Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli areas, our hospital established a psychiatric outpatient clinic in March 1997. Since then, we have successively opened acute and chronic wards, as well as the "Sweetheart Station" sheltered workshop. Currently, we have 60 acute care beds and 150 chronic care beds.

The medical team includes:

• 3 board-certified psychiatrists

• 33 nursing staff

• 5 clinical psychologists (including part-time)

• 4 social workers

• 7 occupational therapists

In addition to general outpatient services and acute/chronic inpatient treatment, the department also:

• Serves as the designated hospital for psychiatric emergencies in Hsinchu County and City.

• Provides treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, and sexual offenders.

• Since 2011, collaborates with the Hsinchu District Court to offer psychiatric evaluations for guardianship and assistance declarations.

To improve medication adherence and regular follow-ups for patients with schizophrenia, we provide discharge planning services as part of the National Health Insurance's psychiatric care improvement program, aiming to help patients reintegrate into society.

We also support veterans at the Hsinchu Veterans Home by offering:

• Outpatient psychiatric services

• Mental health lectures

• Occupational therapy activities

• Elderly care programs

These services have been extended to the broader community to promote mental health awareness and education on elderly psychiatric care.

Community Integration & Employment Services

The department actively supports the vocational rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities to help them reintegrate into the community. Since 2016, we've undertaken vocational guidance and assessments for Hsinchu County, focusing on:

• Restoring work capabilities

• Developing independent living skills

• Improving quality of life

On May 3, 2021, in collaboration with the Hsinchu County Labor Department, we established the "Sweetheart Station" sheltered workshop, offering employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities who have work potential. This initiative helps them achieve self-sufficiency and community reintegration.

These efforts have been well-received by clients and families, with consistently high evaluations:

• Vocational assessment: 5 consecutive top-tier evaluations

• Sweetheart Station: "Excellent" rating in 2021

Dementia Care & Services

In response to an aging population, our department has expanded beyond psychiatric care to include services for seniors with dementia, in cooperation with the Hsinchu County Health Bureau.

Milestones:

• 2015: Established the first dementia support center in Hsinchu County

• 2018: Launched a Dementia Shared Care Center

• Established dementia service points in Zhongshan Community (Zhudong Township) and Xinfeng Community (Qionglin Township)

Services include:

• Cognitive rehabilitation groups

• Preventative care to delay disability

• Meal services

• Family support groups

• Safe supervision for elders

Home-Based Treatment Services

In addition to medical and rehabilitative care, we actively promote home treatment, extending care from hospitals to communities. As of 2023:

• 172 patients enrolled

• 240 monthly service sessions on average

We also administer long-acting injectable antipsychotics to improve medication adherence in patients with schizophrenia. Currently, 64 home treatment patients receive monthly injections under the National Health Insurance's care improvement plan.

Advanced Treatments & Future Goals

Beyond community outreach, we also offer:

• Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)

• Sleep Center diagnostics

We plan to introduce biofeedback devices to enhance clinical services and provide more effective, safe treatment options for patients with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and insomnia.
